Our Values

I started DeMellier with the vision of doing things differently, to create handbags that would make women feel empowered, that were beautifully designed and of the highest quality, but also made with integrity whilst finding a way to give back to those less fortunate.

These five values remain our core values today. Below you can find more details about our DNA, who we are and what we stand for. I welcome you to the world of DeMellier, thank you for visiting us.

Inspiring Design

I always knew I wanted to create accessories that would make women feel empowered and confident, pieces as strong as the women who wear them. Our collections are often inspired by my love of art, interior design & architecture, resulting in designs with striking structural lines and statement hardware in rich colours and textures.

Our aim is to design pieces that are modern yet timeless. Small treasures that will stand the test of time and that will make the women wearing them feel as amazing as they are.

By Women, For Women

When I design I think first and foremost about all the women who will be wearing our bags, and how I want our bags to make women feel both special and empowered. I want our handbags to be a loyal companion that is modern and beautiful but also practical, that will carry comfortably all your treasured essentials and that ultimately will help the women who carry them shine, and not be outshined by the bag they carry.

From day one I also wanted DeMellier to not only be about great handbags but be a platform to embrace and treasure women. I felt real women were underrepresented in the media and I wanted to put them at the forefront so they could share their stories and inspire others, so we created features such as DeMellier confidential to do just that.

Made with Integrity

We believe in working with partners who we know well and trust, who have fair working conditions and a safe working environment. We believe in craftsmanship and producing in Europe where the techniques of producing luxury leather goods are deeply rooted. We believe in fair pricing, to be able to offer our customers luxury products at attainable prices by having reasonable margins rather than inflated ones. We believe in minimising waste, by producing in limited quantities we can react better to what you like and ensure we don’t have excess stock left over.

This is the reason why we often have pieces on pre-order. We know that means asking our customers to wait a little longer and I would like to thank you for your patience, as this allows us to produce what our customers want and avoid waste in the process. Any unused materials or leftovers are given to local apprentice schools to help the next generation. When I started DeMellier I did it because I felt there was a gap in the market, not only related to products but also to brand values. Being socially conscious, giving back and creating products with integrity, I wanted to create something I would be proud of and that hopefully our customers would be proud of too.

Luxury Craftsmanship

All our handbags are handcrafted in the south of Spain with special attention to texture and detail, using the finest Italian and Spanish materials. It takes 50 pieces to make one of our bestsellers, the Mini Venice, each of the 50 pieces will be individually cut, stitched and painted by skilful artisans, 12 different artisans are required to make just this one handbag.

It really struck me the first time I saw our bags being made, what an incredibly elaborate and intricate process it is, making each handbag a small piece of art. In a world where fast fashion and cheap production is the norm, we want to treasure and support the artisanal processes that we believe luxury should stand for.

Giving Back

I wanted DeMellier to reflect my values and giving back to those less fortunate is something I strongly believe in. When deciding which cause I wanted us to support, I thought about the most vulnerable human beings, as a mother of three, an aunt and a godmother, supporting orphan children in developing countries is closest to my heart. So we launched our permanent initiative A Bag, A Life and partnered with SOS Children’s Villages, the largest orphan charity in the world to make it happen.

We have been supporting two villages in Somalia and Zambia, where currently 1 in 6 children do not live to see their 6th birthday, often due to preventable causes. For every item you purchase we fund a set of life-saving vaccines aimed to save the life of an orphan in need. So far we have funded over 45,000 vaccines and I want to take this chance to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and for joining our little crusade.
